UN Warns of Worsening Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza as Aid Falls Short of Needs

The United Nations has renewed warnings that the humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip continues to deteriorate, saying the volume of aid allowed into the enclave remains far below what is required to meet the population’s growing needs amid ongoing military operations.

In a briefing on Monday, UN officials said conditions in Gaza remain “catastrophic,” pointing to the near-collapse of essential services, particularly the health sector. Hospitals are struggling to function due to shortages of fuel, medicines and medical supplies, while the number of wounded civilians continues to rise.

A spokesperson for the UNRWA said that recent, limited improvements in aid access do not match the scale of humanitarian needs. Severe shortages of food, clean drinking water and medical equipment persist, leaving large segments of the population at continued risk.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has also warned of what he described as serious violations of human rights, human dignity and international law in the occupied Palestinian territories, calling on the international community to act urgently to end impunity. He said the global human rights framework is facing unprecedented strain as conflicts intensify worldwide.

Separately, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed alarm over escalating violations of international law in Gaza and the West Bank, stressing the need to protect civilians and ensure accountability. He said any lasting solution must be grounded in international law, UN resolutions and a two-state framework.

UN reports indicate that Palestinians in Gaza continue to die from military violence, exposure to cold, hunger and preventable diseases, warning that without urgent international action, the humanitarian crisis is likely to deepen further.
