Pope Leo XIV Warns Peace Is Impossible While Humanity “Wages War Against Itself”

Pope Leo XIV told young participants at the Political Innovation Hackathon: One Humanity, One Planet Conference that lasting peace cannot be achieved while humanity remains divided by injustice, exclusion, and indifference.
Addressing the gathering on Saturday, the Pope said true peace is undermined when societies discard the vulnerable, exclude the poor, or ignore refugees and the oppressed, Vatican News reported.
The Pope stressed that peacebuilding begins in everyday settings such as universities, workplaces, and civic institutions, urging young leaders to promote harmony at all levels of society. He emphasized the importance of inclusive political participation that enables all citizens to take part in public life and supports universal fraternity.
Citing Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Pope Leo reiterated that abortion is a major threat to peace, warning that no policy truly serves society if it denies life to the unborn or fails to support those in need. He concluded by encouraging participants to persevere in their efforts, emphasizing shared responsibility for humanity and the planet.
