Terrorist Attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Kills Four Members of Peace Committee

Pakistani authorities said a suspected terrorist attack in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has killed at least four members of a local peace committee.
According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 13, in the Bannu district, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a vehicle in the Gulbaddin Landi Dakk area.
A police official at the Bannu control center told Anadolu that all four occupants of the vehicle were killed in the attack. Two of the victims were reported to be a father and his son.
Reuters quoted security officials as describing the incident as a terrorist attack, noting that members of peace committees have repeatedly been targeted in similar assaults. These committees are local groups that cooperate with security forces to help maintain stability and counter militant activities.
Pakistan’s interior minister condemned the attack, saying that violent actions by militants would not weaken the nation’s resolve to combat terrorism.
The attack comes amid ongoing security concerns in Pakistan. According to military officials, more than 500 people were killed in terrorist attacks across the country last year.
