Pakistan Continues Expulsion of Undocumented Afghans Amid Camp Demolition

Pakistan expelled 4,470 Afghan nationals on Sunday as part of its ongoing removal of migrants without legal documentation, the Taliban-run Commission for Refugees Affairs said, Amu TV reported. The commission also confirmed that 364 additional Afghans were returned from Iran during the same period through both forced and voluntary repatriations.

Returnees entered Afghanistan via the Torkham, Spin Boldak, Bahramcha, Islam Qala and Pul-e Abrisham border crossings. According to the commission, the latest group followed the expulsion of 6,435 Afghans a day earlier, on 29 November, as Islamabad maintains its stepped-up enforcement actions.

The new wave of returns coincides with Pakistani media reports that authorities have demolished “Gardi Jungle,” once the largest Afghan refugee settlement in Balochistan and previously home to roughly 70,000 people. Officials said the camp in Chagai district had been cleared before demolition, with remaining Afghans repatriated after identity checks and verification of residency status.

Local authorities reported that dismantling of empty houses and shops inside the former settlement is under way. Pakistan has described the measures as part of a broader policy targeting migrants who lack valid documentation.
