Denmark plans to ban social media use for children under 15 to protect their mental health and well-being, Khaama Press reported. The government announced the proposal on Friday, saying it aims to curb online risks and excessive screen time among minors.

Digital Affairs Minister Caroline Stage Olsen said platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube have “taken away children’s time, health, and childhood,” emphasizing the government’s responsibility to safeguard young users.

Under the plan, parents may grant supervised access to teens aged 13 and above. The proposal has already gained broad support across Denmark’s parliament, indicating strong political backing ahead of an expected vote. Officials say the move reflects growing concern about the impact of digital platforms on children’s development.

The decision follows a national study showing that young Danes spend nearly three hours daily on social media. Denmark’s initiative mirrors similar restrictions in countries like Australia, which last year banned users under 16 from social media platforms.
