The fourth World Conference on Mosque Architecture concluded yesterday at Istanbul Technical University, after several days of discussions that brought together architects, scholars, and researchers from diverse fields including Islamic studies, architecture, social sciences, philosophy, and history. The event was jointly organized by the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture and Istanbul Technical University.

Held under the theme “Rethinking Mosque Architecture in the Contemporary World: Paradigm Shifts and New Directions,” the conference explored how mosque design can evolve to meet the needs of modern societies while preserving its spiritual and cultural essence. Participants exchanged ideas on integrating innovation, sustainability, and technology into the design and restoration of mosques worldwide.

The sessions covered five main themes: the historical evolution of mosque architecture, digital integration and technological applications, identity and design values, the social role of mosques within communities, and sustainable construction practices that promote heritage conservation and energy efficiency.

Organizers said the conference succeeded in presenting a contemporary vision of mosque architecture that reflects global cultural shifts. The final recommendations emphasized viewing mosques as inclusive spaces that foster community development, cultural dialogue, and urban resilience across both Muslim and non-Muslim societies.
