Britain has deported 16 migrants to France in the largest group return so far under the “one in, one out” agreement, The Telegraph reported. The latest flight brings the total number of migrants sent back to 42, compared to 23 received from France under the reciprocal arrangement.

Since the scheme began on August 6, more than 11,000 migrants have crossed the Channel, while over 36,000 have arrived in the UK on small boats this year — a nearly 30% increase from the same period in 2024.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood vowed to expand deportations to deter crossings, calling the move “a warning” to those attempting illegal entry. She pledged to “scale up removals” as part of wider efforts to strengthen border security.
