Argentinian scientists have uncovered fossilized remains of one of the world’s oldest dinosaur species in the Andes Mountains, The Peninsula reported. Researchers from the CONICET institute found an almost complete skeleton of Huayracursor Jaguensis at an altitude of 3,000 meters in the country’s northwest. The discovery includes parts of the skull, a full vertebral column, and nearly intact limbs.

Published in Nature magazine, the study suggests the species lived between 230 and 225 million years ago, during the late Triassic period when the first dinosaurs emerged. Although related to large herbivorous dinosaurs, the Huayracursor was relatively small, measuring around two meters long and weighing about 18 kilograms.
