UNRWA Chief Warns Israel is Preparing “Large-Scale Massacres” in Gaza

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini (UNRWA), has issued a stark warning that Israel’s current policies suggest preparations for a “large-scale massacre” in the Gaza Strip, Khaama Press reported.
In a statement released on October 2nd, Lazzarini asserted that Israel’s decision to label nearly 250,000 besieged residents in Gaza as “terrorists or supporters of terrorism” reveals an intent to broadly target civilians. He described the move as a “grim omen,” stressing that those unable or unwilling to evacuate the area remain at risk of imminent attacks.
The UNRWA chief was uncompromising in his call for international action, stating: “No one has the license to kill civilians. The ongoing crimes in Gaza cannot be left unanswered.”
Lazzarini further warned that “International inaction amounts to complicity in what the UN Commission of Inquiry has already termed genocide.” He concluded with a forceful demand: “The time to act is now.”
The warning comes amid growing fears over mounting civilian casualties and a deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Observers view Lazzarini’s remarks as the strongest warning yet from a senior UN official, reflecting mounting frustration with perceived international indifference to the escalating conflict.
