System Outage Disrupts Passport Checks at Major Canadian Airports

Canada’s passport verification system has experienced a nationwide outage recently, disrupting customs and immigration checks at several major airports, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) attributed the breakdown to an “unforeseen technical issue” during routine maintenance, affecting electronic passport inspection kiosks.

Airports most impacted included Toronto Pearson, Montreal Trudeau, and Calgary International, where travelers faced hours-long delays. Vancouver also reported slower processing times, though operations continued.

During the outage, many arriving passengers were held on planes or routed to manual inspection lines, compounding congestion in customs halls.

By early Monday, CBSA confirmed the issue had been resolved and kiosks were back online, but warned that residual delays might linger as airports processed backlogs.
