Escalation and Cultural Destruction Mark Mideast Conflict

Recent Israeli military actions have been marked by both a continuation of strikes in Lebanon despite a ceasefire and devastating impacts on Gaza’s historical Christian community.
Israel launched new airstrikes on targets in Southern Lebanon despite an active ceasefire agreement, according to the official Lebanese news agency NNA.
The strikes reportedly targeted the southern town of Aitaroun as well as areas between Ainata and Aitaoun. A military source confirmed that Israeli artillery also heavily shelled the area of Tir Harfa. The continuation of these attacks represents a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement established to halt hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

Simultaneously, the Palestinian Presidential Committee of Church Affairs in Gaza has issued a stark statement claiming that Israel’s military campaign has effectively destroyed the Christian presence in the Gaza Strip.
The committee reported that the attacks resulted in the destruction of most churches and cultural centers belonging to the Christian community. Specifically, the statement noted the targeting of historical sites like the Church of Saint Porphyrius, one of the oldest churches in the world, and the Holy Family Catholic Church, forcing Christians to flee to various countries.
The committee asserted that the destruction was aimed at erasing the historical Palestinian Christian presence in Gaza.
