An estimated 45,000 people took part in the annual Arbaeen procession commemorating Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in Dearborn, Michigan, on Saturday, making it one of the largest Islamic religious events held each year in the United States.

According to organizers, the procession is the largest of its kind in the country, bringing together thousands of members of Muslim communities and followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) to commemorate the fortieth day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and to honor the values of justice, dignity, and resistance to oppression associated with his legacy.

Participants carried Husseini flags and banners while chanting slogans expressing their commitment to Imam Hussein’s principles and universal message. The event drew people of all ages and backgrounds.

To facilitate the procession, local authorities implemented traffic and security measures. Dearborn Police temporarily closed the northbound lanes of Greenfield Road between Warren Avenue and Ford Road for several hours to ensure the safety of participants and manage traffic flow.

Participants said the annual Arbaeen procession provides an opportunity to raise awareness of Imam Hussein’s message within American society and to highlight the universal principles of freedom, justice, human dignity, and self-sacrifice embodied in the events of Karbala.

The large turnout reflects the growing presence of Husseini commemorations in the United States and the expanding global observance of Arbaeen, one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings.
