A group of Syrian activists has launched an interactive website titled Syrian Prisons Museum, aimed at documenting the atrocities committed in Saydnaya Prison during the rule of former President Bashar al-Assad, according to The Economist.

The platform features video testimonies from survivors, detailing the torture and repression endured by thousands over decades. It serves as a resource for families of the missing, human rights lawyers, and historians, offering what the creators describe as both a “memorial and forensic archive.”

The project follows the opening of Saydnaya’s prison blocks on December 8, 2024—nine months after Assad’s fall—when hundreds of detainees, including women, were released. However, the fate of thousands remains unknown.

According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights, at least 112,414 individuals are still forcibly disappeared, and mass graves have been uncovered containing hundreds of bodies. The website seeks to preserve evidence, raise international awareness, and support efforts toward accountability and justice for victims of systemic abuse.
