First Call to Prayer (Adhan) Sounds at Taipei’s Largest Metro Station
———————————–
For the first time ever, the Adhan (call to prayer) was performed at Taipei’s largest metro station, the capital of Taiwan’s main transportation hub. The Adhan was delivered by Yam Zamanah, the Imam of the Taipei Grand Mosque.
According to a report by the Shia Waves Agency, citing “Muslim Around the World,” this cultural and religious event symbolized coexistence and tolerance among the various cultures and religions in Taiwan. Many travelers stopped to listen, witnessing a spiritual and unexpected moment.
Taiwan’s Muslim population is a minority of approximately 170,000, and they enjoy religious freedom. The majority of this community is from the Hui ethnic group, who immigrated from China in the 1940s. Additionally, there are communities from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand living in the country. The Taipei Grand Mosque, as the largest and oldest mosque in Taiwan, stands as a symbol of the cultural diversity within the Muslim community.
