Kanwariyas Attack Muslim Family’s Car During Kanwar Yatra in Haridwar, Sparking Outrage

Manglaur town in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, witnessed a disturbing incident on Saturday during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, where a group of Kanwariyas attacked a Muslim family traveling by car, Muslim Mirror reported. A viral video shows the family’s vehicle surrounded by an aggressive mob of pilgrims shouting, vandalizing the car, and causing chaos. Women and children from the family were seen fleeing in fear. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with users questioning how a religious pilgrimage turned into an episode of violence.
Reports indicate the conflict began over a minor road dispute when the family’s car allegedly brushed past a group of Kanwariyas. Instead of resolving the matter peacefully, the pilgrims responded with hostility, leading to physical assault and damage to the vehicle.
The video, shared by Instagram user @iamnarendranath, highlighted concerns over intolerance during religious events, with the caption questioning the justification for such behavior in the name of religion or language.
Public anger grew as critics pointed to the relaxed traffic rules and privileges often granted to Kanwariyas during the yatra, emphasizing that such exemptions should not allow violence or hatred.
In response, Haridwar Police confirmed registering a case and filing an FIR against eight individuals following a complaint by the car owner, Nazim. The incident has reignited calls for stricter law enforcement during religious processions to ensure public safety and curb communal tensions.
