Sri Lanka’s Education Ministry announces two-day school closure for Hajj season and Eid Al-Adha

Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education has announced the closure of all schools across the island on Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, in observance of this year’s Hajj season. Eid Al-Adha is expected to fall on Saturday, June 7, a major Islamic holiday commemorating sacrifice, devotion, and spiritual reflection.

The ministry emphasized its aim to balance educational responsibilities with the spiritual significance of the occasion. To compensate for the holiday, June 26 and 27 will be designated as make-up school days, with the second academic term officially starting on June 26.

The decision reflects the government’s consideration for students and families wishing to participate in the religious atmosphere of Hajj while maintaining the integrity of the academic calendar. It stands as an example of harmonizing religious observance with educational planning.
