Mass protest in The Hague urges Dutch government to toughen stance on Gaza war

Tens of thousands of people marched through The Hague on Sunday, calling for the Dutch government to adopt a firmer position against Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, Reuters reported. Organised by Oxfam Novib, the demonstration drew an estimated 100,000 participants, many dressed in red to symbolise a “red line” against Israel’s actions.
The protest route passed the International Court of Justice, where Israel is facing a genocide case filed by South Africa. The court has previously ordered Israel to halt its offensive on Rafah. Israel denies all accusations of genocide, asserting its operations target Hamas militants in self-defence following the October 7 attack.
Oxfam Novib accused the Dutch government of ignoring alleged war crimes in Gaza and urged for stronger diplomatic measures. Over 35,000 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the war. Gaza remains under a severe blockade, creating widespread food, fuel, and medical shortages.
