Militants Kidnap Five Policemen in Pakistan’s Balochistan

A separatist militant group attacked a prison van in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, kidnapping five police officers, officials confirmed Sunday, Arab News reported. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the assault, which involved 30–40 gunmen blocking a highway overnight Friday, freeing prisoners, and torching government buildings.

Authorities reported two militants killed during clashes, while a rescue operation for the abducted officers continues. The BLA, fighting for Balochistan’s independence, has escalated attacks on state forces and infrastructure, including Chinese-funded projects. In March, the group held hundreds hostage in a train siege for three days.

Balochistan, rich in minerals and bordering Afghanistan and Iran, has faced a decades-long insurgency targeting security personnel and outsiders. The latest violence underscores persistent instability in the region despite military operations.
