200,000 Syrians Return Home from Türkiye Since December, Erdogan Says

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Monday that 200,000 Syrians have returned to their homeland from Türkiye since December 9 last year, Anadolu Agency reported.

Speaking at an event in Istanbul, Erdogan stated that the number of returnees has begun to accelerate as Syria slowly recovers from its 13-year civil war, despite various challenges. He highlighted Türkiye’s significant role, having hosted approximately 4 million Syrians during the conflict, a number exceeding that of any other country.

Erdogan also provided broader context on global migration, noting over 281 million migrants worldwide, including 120 million refugees displaced by conflict, oppression, or terrorism in the last three to four years. He added that 75% of the world’s refugees are hosted by low- and middle-income nations, arguing that Western powers do not adequately share the burden.
