Second International Seminar on Arabic, Islamic Inscriptions to Kick Off in Cairo

The Second International Seminar on Arabic and Islamic Inscriptions is set to commence on April 15, organized by the BA Writing and Scripts Center and the Center for Islamic Civilization Studies, in collaboration with the Institut français d’archéologie orientale (IFAO) and Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Archeology.
Titled “Orientalists and the Origin of Arabic Inscriptions from the 19th Century until the Beginning of the 20th Century,” the seminar brought together 14 researchers from Egypt, France, Switzerland, Morocco, and Iraq to present papers on the contributions of European scholars to the study of Arabic and Islamic inscriptions.
The first day was held at IFAO in El-Mounira, while the second day featured a field visit to historical sites in Cairo. A special session, “Modern Projects for Documenting Arab and Islamic Inscriptions,” highlighted contemporary efforts in the field. An accompanying exhibition, “The Workmanship of Inscriptions: Byssus and Chisels – The Special Collection of the Sufizadeh Family,” showcased rare artifacts.
