UNICEF forced to close malnutrition centers in Gaza amid worsening humanitarian crisis

UNICEF has Shut down 21 malnutrition treatment centers in the Gaza Strip due to ongoing Israeli military operations and recent evacuation orders, Arab News reported.
Spokesperson Kazem Abu Khalaf stated that these closures are linked to the deteriorating security situation and the blockade of aid into Gaza, which has lasted for 35 consecutive days, preventing essential supplies from entering.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is unprecedented, with over one million children cut off from life-saving assistance for more than a month. UNICEF condemned the blockade as a violation of international humanitarian law, highlighting that food supplies for infants have been depleted and remaining stocks can only feed 400 children for a month.
The situation has worsened since hostilities resumed in March, following a temporary ceasefire. Israel’s conflict with Hamas, ongoing since October 2023, has devastated Gaza’s infrastructure and displaced many civilians. Aid agencies warn of impending famine and a collapse of health services without urgent humanitarian access.
