England: Government launches fund to tackle anti-Muslim hate

A new government fund has been launched to monitor anti-Muslim hate and support victims across England, news reports said. The initiative aims to deliver a detailed and accurate record of hate incidents, helping inform efforts to tackle Islamophobia and ensure communities feel supported.

According to police figures, nearly 40% of all religious hate crimes last year were directed at Muslims, marking a 13% increase from the previous year. Applications for the fund open on 7 April, inviting a single organisation or a consortium to lead the work.

The chosen provider will be responsible for recording hate incidents, raising awareness of what constitutes hate crime, encouraging victims to report offences, and offering support to those affected. The fund forms part of the government’s broader Plan for Change, aimed at creating safer streets and more inclusive communities. Minister for Faith Lord Khan described the move as a vital step towards addressing rising anti-Muslim hatred.
