The Holy Shrine of Imam al-Askari has unveiled the Samarra Documentary Encyclopedia, a major historical publication consisting of ten volumes and produced by the Samarra Heritage Center to preserve and document the historical and cultural legacy of the holy city.
The encyclopedia brings together a wide collection of rare historical documents, records, and sources covering different periods of Samarra’s history, including its religious landmarks, cultural heritage, and historical developments.
According to the Samarra Heritage Center, the publication represents a significant step in documenting the city’s heritage. The volumes include scholarly biographies, archival materials, and detailed documentation of the various stages of reconstruction and development of the Holy Shrine of Imam al-Askari throughout different historical periods.
The encyclopedia also examines aspects of Iraq’s religious and national history by presenting documented religious rulings and positions of religious authorities regarding major historical events, including responses to the British occupation, providing valuable resources for researchers studying religious leadership and the history of Samarra.
The Samarra Heritage Center announced that the encyclopedia is now available to researchers, academics, and readers through its permanent book fair platform.
The publication is part of ongoing efforts by the Holy Military Shrine and the Samarra Heritage Center to preserve documentary heritage and provide reference materials for studies related to Samarra’s Islamic, cultural, and historical identity.
