Japan Enhances AI Education in High Schools

Japan is intensifying its focus on artificial intelligence (AI) education in high schools, recognizing the need to equip students for the technology’s significant potential—both beneficial and harmful, Anadolu Agency reported. According to public broadcaster NHK, 48 senior high school textbooks across eight subjects now include generative AI as a topic, a notable increase from just one textbook that addressed the subject in the last review four years ago.

This shift reflects the growing integration of generative AI into society, with its use becoming more prevalent in Japanese schools. In response to the expanding role of this technology, Japan’s Education Ministry issued new guidelines for the application of generative AI in educational settings in 2024.
