Muslim Council in US Voices Alarm Over Rising Islamophobia

The Muslim Council in the United States has expressed deep concern regarding the alarming rise of Islamophobia worldwide, as evidenced by recent reports indicating a surge in anti-Muslim sentiments and attacks, Morocco World News reported. The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights organization in the country, highlighted that 2023 marked the highest number of Islamophobia reports in its 30-year history, with 8,061 documented incidents.
The op-ed released by CAIR pointed to the dire situation faced by Muslims globally, citing the ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and violence against the Rohingya in Myanmar. The organization noted numerous tragic stories, including the killing of a six-year-old Palestinian American boy in Chicago.

CAIR also criticized social media platforms like X, formerly Twitter, accusing them of fostering anti-Muslim content. The organization linked this trend to real-world consequences, recalling how the Christchurch massacre perpetrator streamed his attack on Facebook in 2019.
On the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged global leaders to take urgent action against discrimination and promote human rights. He emphasized the need to build inclusive societies where everyone can live in peace, regardless of their faith, reinforcing the call for solidarity against rising bigotry.
