Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind to Protest Waqf Amendment Bill

Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani announced support for the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s (AIMPLB) planned protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill at Jantar Mantar on March 13. Clarion reported. He stated that Muslims are compelled to reclaim their rights due to ongoing government disregard for their concerns regarding Waqf properties.

Madani emphasized that peaceful protest for religious rights is a democratic right. He criticized the government’s handling of the Waqf Amendment Bill, asserting that it interferes with religious obligations established by the Qur’an and Hadith. He described the referral of the bill to a joint parliamentary committee as a mere pretense, with opposition suggestions ignored.

If the bill passes, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind plans to challenge it in state high courts and approach the Supreme Court. Madani urged unity among Muslims and other minorities to resist laws contrary to Shariah, stressing the importance of hope and determination in challenging oppression.
