Amnesty International Calls for Stronger Digital Rights in Taiwan at RightsCon2025

Amnesty International Taiwan, alongside six partner organizations, is set to present a joint statement to President Lai Ching-Te on February 25, emphasizing the need for robust human rights protections in the digital age. This statement will be delivered during RightsCon2025, a global conference focused on digital rights, taking place in Taipei from February 24 to 27.

Eeling Chiu, Director of Amnesty International Taiwan, stressed the importance of ensuring that Taiwan’s digital governance respects human rights and the rule of law. The statement calls for the adoption of a Digital Bill of Rights, improved personal data protection regulations, and mechanisms for accountability in cases of data breaches.

RightsCon will address various pressing issues, including online hate, spyware proliferation, and Technology Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV). The event aims to foster global dialogue on emerging human rights challenges in the digital landscape, featuring notable speakers from diverse sectors.
