American Islamic Association launches phase two of Staten Island mosque expansion

The American Islamic Association in Staten Island has announced the start of phase two of its mosque expansion project, aimed at serving the growing Muslim community.

The new phase will significantly increase the mosque’s capacity, adding classrooms for Quranic studies, a hall for events, and facilities for youth activities.

The expansion will also include a kitchen and food bank to support low-income families, especially during the winter, as well as an Islamic library and childcare facilities, with mental health support services.

Abdullah Aqel, a member of the association, emphasized that the center will be open to all and is essential for the increasing Muslim population in Staten Island.

The project builds on the first phase, which opened last winter, and addresses the community’s need for a unified space for worship and learning.
