UNRWA reports 1 child killed every hour in Gaza amid Israeli onslaught

According to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), at least 14,500 Palestinian children have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip since last year, Anadolu Agency reported.

UNRWA stated, “One child is killed every hour. These figures represent lives abruptly ended.” The organization emphasized that the killing of children is indefensible, highlighting the physical and emotional scars borne by survivors. Deprived of education, children in Gaza are left to search through the debris.

“The situation is dire for these children. They are not only losing their lives and futures but also their hope,” the agency noted.

Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has persisted with its military actions in Gaza following a Hamas attack on October 7 last year. Local health authorities report that over 45,300 individuals, primarily women and children, have been killed, with more than 107,700 injured.

Recently, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice regarding its actions in the region.
