WFP Empowers Afghan Women with Skills Training

The World Food Program (WFP) is aiding thousands of women in Afghanistan, many of whom are the primary earners for their families, by providing essential skills training, Khaama Press reported yesterday.

The UN agency highlighted the severe limitations on women’s income opportunities in a recent post on X/Twitter.

On October 2, WFP shared a video showcasing women engaged in baking bread, weaving carpets, and sewing, illustrating their path to self-reliance. Afghanistan has been labeled the worst country for women, particularly since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, which has seen a ban on education and employment for girls and women.

The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan disproportionately affects women, as restrictions on education and job opportunities plunge many into extreme poverty. The Taliban’s oppressive policies have isolated women, stripping them of their rights and potential.

International organizations are urging immediate action to alleviate the dire situation and restore basic rights for Afghan women. Without significant intervention, Afghanistan faces the risk of long-term socio-economic collapse, perpetuating a cycle of crisis for women and girls in the country.
