CAIR-Chicago Expresses Concern Over Removal of Muslim Headstones

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) has voiced deep concern following the unannounced removal of nearly 100 Muslim headstones at Bohemian National Cemetery, the organization’s website revealed yesterday.

Operations Manager Maggie Slavin stated, “We are saddened to hear that improper handling and care of some Muslim headstones by Bohemian Cemetery resulted in their destruction.” She emphasized the emotional toll on affected families and urged the cemetery to collaborate with the Muslim Community Center (MCC) to restore the headstones. Slavin also advised community members to seek guidance from MCC before marking graves to prevent future removals.

In response, MCC is working with families to provide temporary markers and financial assistance for replacements. CAIR-Chicago has pledged to monitor the situation closely and support families in achieving a resolution. The organization hopes for swift action to restore the dignity of the gravesites.
