Shia figures in Germany condemn anti-Shia practices by Taliban in Afghanistan

Several Shia figures at a meeting in Germany expressed concerns that the people of Afghanistan, particularly Shias, are being deliberately denied their human and Islamic rights under Taliban rule, according to Afghanistan International.

During the “Gathering of Afghan Shia Elites” conference held on July 27 in Frankfurt, participants labeled the Taliban government as illegitimate and oppressive, stating that resistance against the group is justified and necessary.

In a statement issued at the conference, participants condemned the restrictions on women, describing them as “gender apartheid,” and called for the recognition of Afghan women’s human rights.

They emphasized the need to create a comprehensive plan to address the current situation and called for the mobilization of all available resources.

Shia figures living in Europe urged the international community and the United Nations to limit their engagement with the Taliban and avoid recognizing the group.

The Shia elites argued that unilateral engagement with the Taliban worsens the humanitarian crisis and encourages terrorism in Afghanistan and the region.
