Amnesty International Calls on Germany to Support Afghan Refugees in Pakistan

Amnesty International has urged the German government to ensure the safety of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, emphasizing the need for continued support amid growing concerns about their uncertain future, Khaama Press reported yesterday.

In a statement released on July 17th, the organization highlighted that approximately 3,700 Afghan refugees in Islamabad are awaiting transfer to Germany, alongside an additional 15,000 individuals still in Afghanistan who are in contact with the German authorities.

The organization expressed alarm over potential budget cuts in Germany’s 2025 budget, warning that such reductions could hinder the processing of Afghan migrant cases. This concern arises as Germany has recently rejected numerous applications from Afghan migrants following violent incidents, raising fears about the fate of those who were promised acceptance.

Amnesty International stresses the humanitarian imperative to protect these vulnerable individuals, urging the German government not to abandon them during this critical time. The organization calls for international cooperation to uphold commitments to refugee protection, especially for those fleeing conflict and persecution.

The plight of Afghan refugees in Pakistan highlights the urgent need for coordinated efforts to provide safe living conditions and pursue sustainable solutions that address the root causes of displacement, ensuring that individuals do not face prolonged uncertainty and vulnerability.
