Pakistan declares 9th, 10th of Holy Muharram as official holidays

The federal government of Pakistan, along with several provincial governments, has declared the 9th and 10th of the upcoming month of Muharram as official holidays in observance of the tragic martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

According to multiple media outlets followed by Shia Waves Agency, Pakistan will witness ten consecutive days of mourning assemblies and large processions to commemorate the sorrowful event.

The government emphasized that “declaring the 9th and 10th of Muharram as official holidays is of great importance to allow citizens to observe Hussaini rituals associated with Ashura without work or educational commitments.”

The Ministry of Interior has confirmed that it has put necessary security plans in place and coordinated fully with provincial governments and law enforcement agencies to take the required measures to maintain security and peace during the observance of Ashura.
