Laylat al-Qadr: its date, obligatory acts of worship and why it is a significant night
The Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr) is considered one of the most important nights in the holy month of Ramadan. It is a significant night for all believers due to the revelation of the Holy Quran on this night, the changing of destinies, the descent of angels to earth, and the forgiveness of sins by Allah Almighty.
According to authentic Shia sources, Laylat al-Qadr falls on one of three nights – the 19th, 21st, or 23rd night of Ramadan.
In terms of prayers on Laylat al-Qadr, Shia Muslims are advised to start praying from the night of the 19th, 21st, or 23rd of Ramadan after the Isha prayer and continue until Fajr prayer.
It is recommended to increase prayers on this night, aiming for around a hundred rukah of prayer. Additionally, individuals should engage in abundant supplications using known prayers books like “Mafatih al-Jinan.”
Regarding specific acts of worship on Laylat al-Qadr, it is recommended to perform ablution before the Isha prayer, recite two rukahs of prayer with Surah Al-Fatihah and Surah Al-Tawhid, recite the Istighfar supplication seventy times, and pray a hundred rukah of prayer with Surah Al-Fatihah and memorized verses from the Quran.
