The International Shia Rights Watch Organization (SRW) has issued its monthly report for January 2024 on the most prominent human rights violations against Shia Muslims around the world.
The four-page report included a review of major terrorist attacks, including bombings, as well as systematic repression and abuse in a number of countries against Shias.
The organization’s report pointed out that its teams were only able to document some of the reported violations in collaboration with some human rights activists and civil organizations, emphasizing that many field indicators suggest violations that could not be confirmed with evidence and witnesses.
The monthly report monitored incidents of violence and persecution against Shia Muslims in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Syria, and Iraq.
In Iran, the report documented a double terrorist bombing that resulted in the martyrdom of more than 100 people and the injury of 200.
In Afghanistan, the report documented a terrorist bombing when an explosive device was placed inside a bus in the Dash-e-Barchi area in central Kabul, resulting in the martyrdom of two and the injury of 14 others, in addition to a roadside bomb explosion targeting a bus carrying Shia students in Darb Khush area of Herat, resulting in the martyrdom of two and the injury of five others.
In northern Pakistan, a roadside bomb in Mamund area, led to the martyrdom of five people and the injury of 22 others.
As for Bahrain, the report recorded a series of arrests and summons by the authorities. Muslim Aqeel Habib from the town of Sitra was arrested after being summoned for arbitrary interrogation.
Additionally, six elderly individuals were summoned for arbitrary interrogation. In the Old Country area, Musa Jafar was arrested. In addition, a minor from the Sanabis area was arrested. The security authorities also arrested the minor Qasim Jameel Al-Samee from the town of Sitra, as well as the minor Jafar Ali Sanqoor from Sitra and Ali Abd Ali from the town of Al-Musalla.
In Kuwait, the report documented the thwarting of a terrorist attack plan where security forces arrested three terrorists who were planning to target a number of Hussainiyas and mosques frequented by Shia worshippers through bombings.
In Syria, extremist groups attacked convoys of Shia visitors in Al-Bu Kamal border area with Iraq who were heading to the shrine of Sayyida Zainab in Damascus, resulting in several injuries alongside the destruction of several buses carrying them.
In Iraq, the report confirmed the martyrdom and wounding of a number of people in Salah al-Din Governorate after an attack on the Zarka area by ISIS terrorists. The terrorist attack resulted in the martyrdom of two and the injury of three others.
Additionally, a roadside bomb exploded in Khan Bani Saad in Diyala province, injuring two people. Furthermore, three people were martyred and two others were injured in an ISIS attack in Beiji in Salah al-Din Governorate.
