At least 2 civilians dead, 14 wounded in Kabul after minibus explosion
A bomb blast ripped through a minibus in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, Saturday evening, killing at least two civilians and wounding 14 others.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred in the city’s western Dasht-e-Barchi Shiite Muslim neighborhood.
The Sunni extremist militant group said its members detonated an explosive device on the bus carrying Shiite Muslims, whom they called ‘disbelievers’, in a statement released shortly after the explosion Saturday. It was the first attack in the country in 2024.
Similar to other Shia-populated areas, Dasht-e-Barchi has experienced persistent deadly militant bombings, targeting Shiite mosques, schools and hospitals.
In November and October, in the same area of Kabul, the IS claimed responsibility for a minibus explosion and an explosion hitting a sports club respectively, in which seven and then four people were killed.
