Saudi Criminal Court sentences a number of people to jail and whipping for performing religious rituals

The Criminal Court of Ahsa sentenced a number of people to 50 days imprisonment and whipping for performing religious rituals.

According to judicial sources, the citizens were sentenced to 50 days in jail and torture (whipping) for marking Imam Hussein’s martyrdom on the tenth of Ashura.

Taha al-Haji, the lawyer who posted the news, tweeted that the court sentenced each one of the mourners for 50 days in jail in addition to whipping, which is considered a clear violation of their personal rights.

Al-Haji stressed that diversity is power not a weakness adding that it is supposed to allow foreigners and regular citizens to perform their rituals freely as long as it is not violating other people’s rights.

It is worth mentioning that it is not the first time where Saudi Arabia has oppressed the religious freedom in the country.
