UN Women calls Afghanistan ‘graveyard of hopes’ for girls

UN Women, one of the UN-affiliated pro-women entities, said in a statement released on Thursday that Afghanistan is a “graveyard of hopes” for girls deprived of schooling, Amu news platform reported.

“While the world strives to put more girls in ICT, for the millions of Afghan girls who are out of school, Afghanistan has become the graveyard of buried hopes,” UN Women stated. “But Afghan women and girls don’t give up. And neither will we,” the organization added.

This statement comes as girls have been barred from attending secondary schools in Afghanistan for the past three years, and women have been prohibited from attending universities since December 2022.
