Construction of first seminary for Shia women in Kenya

Sayyed al-Shuhada World Committee, affiliated with the Office of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi in Kuwait, started the construction of the first women’s seminary for Shia females in Kenya.

“Considering the significant growth of reverts and followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in African countries, we saw it necessary to provide a platform for promoting the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and the teaching of Jafari Jurisprudence.”, stated an official of the committee.

“The project was seen as a crucial religious mission, given the importance of learning sciences, especially for Shia women”, he added. “Currently, Sayyed al-Shuhada World Committee has the most prominent role in spreading the religion of Islam and Shiism in African countries,” he noted.

“In view of the warm reception shown by African people to the religion of Ahl al-Bayt (Peace be upon them), the vacuum of active religious and cultural centers in this continent is strongly felt.”, he emphasized while adding that, “Sayyed al-Shuhada World Committee has established more than 10 seminaries in the African continent to fulfill this important role.”

The statement continues by saying that “It was a dream for us to establish a women’s seminary in Kenya, where there are no scholarly centers for women.”

The officials mention that the center was established in keeping with the directives of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi (may Allah prolong his life) to serve as a religious-cultural stronghold for devoted followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and a place to hold religious ceremonies, especially rituals.

It should be mentioned that the Committee has purchased a piece of land for this purpose in Nakuru, one of the most important cities in Kenya.
