Storm Boris Devastates Central, Eastern Europe, Leaving 15 Dead
Storm Boris has caused severe flooding in central and eastern Europe, resulting in at least 15 deaths, Al Jazeera reported yesterday.
Record rainfall has devastated regions in Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Austria, with Poland’s southwestern area particularly hard-hit, reporting five fatalities, including a surgeon. In the Czech Republic, one woman drowned, and seven others are missing.
Thousands have been evacuated, and emergency services are working tirelessly to provide aid. The Polish government has declared a state of natural disaster and allocated $260 million for relief efforts. Czech authorities have also declared emergencies in two regions, and military helicopters are assisting in evacuations.
While river levels have begun to recede in Austria, officials warn of a potential second wave of flooding as more rain is forecasted.
