Anti-monarchy protest organized in London to mark ‘Republic Day’

Anti-monarchy activists gathered in London on Saturday to mark “Republic Day 2025” with a protest at Trafalgar Square, Anadolu Agency reported. The rally was organized by the prominent British group Republic to promote their vision of a fairer, more democratic Britain.

The protesters displayed large banners with messages such as “Democracy not monarchy” and “Change the country for good.” Many participants also carried signs reading “Not my king” and “Abolish the monarchy.”

Republic described the day as a celebration of the potential and creativity of ordinary people striving for extraordinary change. As part of the demonstration, a 15-foot dinosaur named Chuck was placed in the square, symbolizing the monarchy according to the group. The event coincided with the anniversary of King Charles III’s coronation on May 10, 2025.
