Ramadan Tent Project Hosts Historic Iftar at Shakespeare’s Globe

The Ramadan Tent Project (RTP) has once again transformed Shakespeare’s Globe into a vibrant space for community and connection, hosting an iftar for nearly 500 attendees, Arab News reported. This marks the RTP’s second event at the iconic 17th-century theater, following a historic gathering last week at Windsor Castle, where 350 guests broke their fast for the first time in the royal estate’s 1,000-year history.
Omar Salha, founder of the RTP, highlighted the joy of seeing diverse communities come together, stating, “Every year, it seems we are creating new history, but at the same time, we are building new bridges.” The event attracted participants from London, Scotland, Cambridge, Sheffield, and even a family from South Africa, showcasing the multicultural spirit of Ramadan.
This year’s iftar featured poetry and the Maghreb prayer, followed by a meal prepared by Comptoir Libanais. Attendees enjoyed traditional dishes like chicken and aubergine with chickpeas, pilau rice, and yogurt. Stella Kanu, CEO of Globe Theatre, expressed hopes for the iftar to become a recurring event, emphasizing its role in fostering friendship and community. Participants reflected on the significance of breaking fast together in such a historic venue, with many describing the experience as a “melting pot of cultures.”
