UK Housing Crisis Deepens for Low-Income Families
A recent study by the Resolution Foundation reveals that low- to middle-income families in the UK are facing significant financial challenges compared to their Western European counterparts, Anadolu Agency reported.
The analysis highlights that overall prices in Britain are 8% higher than the average across 38 OECD member countries, with housing costs being a major contributor.
Housing expenses in the UK are 44% above the OECD average, severely impacting the financial stability of lower-income households. While food prices are 12% lower than the OECD average, the soaring costs of rent and utilities mean little relief for struggling families.
The study also notes stark disparities between UK families and those in Germany and the Netherlands. German families in similar income brackets are 21% better off, while Dutch families enjoy a 39% advantage. These findings underscore the ongoing struggle for UK households to manage rising living costs, leaving little room for savings or discretionary spending.
