London Faces Disruption as First Snowfall of 2025 Hits

London experienced its first snowfall of the year on Saturday, prompting authorities to issue amber warnings for snow and ice across Britain, Anadolu Agency reported.

The snow began late Saturday, with parts of the UK bracing for significant disruption as forecasters predict 20 to 40 centimeters (8 to 16 inches) of snow in northern England, the Midlands, and Wales.

The Met Office has warned of potential power cuts and travel disruptions, with multiple flights delayed and diverted at Bristol Airport, which reopened late Saturday under “challenging weather conditions.” Birmingham Airport announced a temporary closure for snow clearing.

The UK Health Security Agency issued cold-health alerts for all of England, as icy conditions contributed to a tragic incident leading to the death of a seven-month-old baby in Lincolnshire. Additional snowfall is expected across northern England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, with warnings in place until noon Sunday.
