UK Provides Aid to Over 2 Million Afghans in 2023
On World Humanitarian Day, the British Embassy in Afghanistan announced that it has provided aid to over 2.7 million people in the country this year, including 1.3 million women, Khaama Press reported yesterday.
Chargé d’affaires Robert Dykes highlighted the positive impact of these efforts during his recent visits to Kabul. The embassy emphasized its commitment to addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
In related news, Irish officials have pledged 150 million euros in aid to Afghanistan and other regions facing crises, including Palestine and Yemen. Irish Defense Minister Michael Martin stated that these funds will tackle humanitarian needs in war-torn areas.
Despite these efforts, the situation remains dire, with UNICEF reporting that 23.7 million people in Afghanistan require humanitarian assistance. The crisis is further exacerbated by the forced deportation of refugees, with over 32,000 Afghan refugees deported by Pakistan in the past month.
