UN: War starves Myanmar, six million children undernourished
One-third of the population of Myanmar, or more than 18 million people, require humanitarian aid, the United Nations has warned, with the humanitarian situation worsening since the coup in February 2021.
Children are main victims of the crisis with 6 million minors in need as a result of displacement, interrupted health care and education, food insecurity and malnutrition, and protection risks including forced recruitment and mental distress, the UN report adds.
With the crisis expected to worsen in 2024, the UN office highlights again that humanitarian organizations are planning to reach 5.3 million individuals at an expected cost of 4 million.
