2 boats adrift in Andaman Sea carrying 400 Rohingya desperately need rescue, UN warns

The U.N. refugee agency on Monday sounded the alarm for about 400 Rohingya Muslims believed to be aboard two boats reported to be out of supplies and adrift in the Andaman Sea.

The UNHCR is worried that all aboard could die without efforts to rescue them, said Babar Baloch, the agency’s Bangkok-based regional spokesperson.

The boats apparently embarked from Bangladesh and are reported to have been at sea for about two weeks, a UN official confirmed, expressing fears that all on board could die if they do not receive help.
