Afghans, Iranians occupy first place in list of asylum seekers crossing English Channel

Information published by the British Home Office shows that more than half of the refugees who have crossed the dangerous passage of English Channel by boat have come from just five countries: Afghanistan, Iran, Eritrea, Syria and Sudan.

The British Home Office data on the number of asylum seekers crossing the English Channel in 2023 show that Afghans and Iranians are at the top of the list of citizens who have sought refuge in this country by crossing this passage.

By the end of August 2023, 4,069 Afghan and 2,250 Iranian citizens landed in Britain in small boats in hope of starting a new life.
