Azerbaijan’s Shusha named cultural capital of Islamic world in 2024

During the 12th Conference of the Culture Ministers of the Islamic World, Azerbaijan’s Shusha city was declared by unanimous vote the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World for 2024.

Shusha has a diverse cultural heritage with many historical mosques and mausoleums that demonstrate the Islamic world’s architectural brilliance.

The decision was made during the cultural event hosted by Qatar, and held by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO).

ICESCO also designated the cities of Samarkand in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Hebron in Palestine, Abidjan in the Republic of Ivory Coast and Siwa in Egypt as the cultural capital of the Islamic world in the years 2025, 26 and 27, respectively.
